PHOENIX -- Opponents pitch around Paul Goldschmidt at every opportunity. The Miami Marlins had little choice Wednesday, and the All-Star first baseman made them pay. Goldschmidt doubled in the last two of Arizonas three runs in the 10th inning, and the Diamondbacks rallied to beat Miami 4-3 to take two of three in the series. Miami had taken a 3-1 lead in the 10th on Donovan Solanos two-run double off Brad Ziegler (4-1), who got the victory. In a nine-pitch at-bat, Aaron Hill opened the Arizona 10th with a pinch-hit single off Steve Cishek. Ender Inciarte walked on four pitches, then David Peraltas RBI single cut the lead to 3-2. On the next pitch, Goldschmidt hit one to the left-centre gap for his major league-best 35th double and his fifth career walk-off hit. "Hes had to be real patient," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "He got up there in a situation where they had to throw to him, and he really stung it." Goldschmidt said he was just trying to get the tying run home from third. "Youve got a guy at third and nobody out, a chance to tie the game," he said. "You just try to put the ball in play. Youre trying to hit it hard, but I just tried to remind myself theres a lot of ways to score that guy. You try not to put too much pressure on yourself." Cishek (4-5) blew his third save in 23 opportunities. "It just seems like the couple of times hes had struggles, its just been up in the zone," Miami manager Mike Redmond said. "He has to throw strikes. Thats pretty much the key to any closer and today he just wasnt able to do that." Nathan Eovaldi blanked Arizona on two hits and nursed a 1-0 lead through seven innings before giving up a leadoff triple to Didi Gregorius in the eighth. Nick Ahmed singled on the next pitch for his first major league RBI to tie it 1-all. It appeared Miami was headed for its second final-inning win in a row, after Marcell Ozunas two-out, two-run homer in the ninth gave the Marlins a 2-1 victory Tuesday night. Adeiny Hechavarria led off the 10th with a single off the glove of third baseman Martin Prado and advanced to second on Jeff Mathis sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter Reed Johnson struck out before an intentional walk brought up Solano, who was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on June 25. Solano doubled to the left-field corner, bringing both runners home to make it 3-1 for Cishek, who earned the save Tuesday night. "Thats a tough one to swallow," Redmond said. "Weve had a few of those. Weve got to lock that down." Arizona tied it in the eighth after right fielder Giancarlo Stanton made a diving attempt on Gregorius sinking liner and the ball got past him, rolling to the fence. Eovaldi left after Ahmeds tying hit, and pinch-hitter Cody Ross singled off reliever Mike Dunn. The runners advanced on Inciartes sacrifice bunt, Goldschmidt was walked intentionally to load the bases and Miguel Montero ended the inning by bouncing out to second. Eovaldi went seven innings plus two batters, allowing a run on four hits. Josh Collmenter held Miami scoreless through five. But in the sixth, Christian Yelich and Solano singled with one out before Stanton hit a sacrifice fly to centre. Ozuna doubled to lead off the seventh, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. He was stranded, though, when Collmenter fanned Hechavarria and Mathis, and Eovaldi lined out softly to first. Collmenter gave up one run and seven hits in seven innings, striking out six and walking one. NOTES: Stanton was 0 for 11 in the series and is 3 for 24 through six games on the road trip. ... Stevenson lands a huge left to Dawsons temple only 76 seconds into the opening round and walks away with the championship belt. "I said Id knock him out," said Stevenson (21-1).BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins forechecked aggressively, cleared the puck easily and dominated the Washington Capitals. Tuukka Rask got the 22nd shutout of his career -- probably one of the easiest -- Gregory Campbell and Loui Eriksson scored second-period goals and the Bruins shut down the Capitals 3-0 on Thursday night. "We did a great job of getting on them quickly and not giving them opportunities to make too many plays," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. For the second straight night, the Capitals managed just eight shots in the first two periods, not the kind of offence they need as they try to move into the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. So where do they go after being outshot 43-16 by the Bruins? "Up. You cant get much lower than that, I guess," Capitals defenceman Karl Alzner said. "The killer instinct isnt there right now and it needs to be there because we are running out of time." Washington is one point out of the eighth playoff spot with 18 games left. Boston finished the scoring on Brad Marchands empty-net goal with 1:34 left and moved one point behind Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh, which played at San Jose. Rasks NHL-leading sixth shutout of the season came just five days after the Capitals beat him 4-2, also in Boston. But since then Washington is 0-3 and Boston is 3-0. Rask was 0-3-3 against the Capitals in his career, but was rarely challenged on Thursday. Boston didnt even have to worry about Washingtons power play, the second best in the NHL. No penalties were called in the game. "Youre kind of afraid of those guys when they get a power play because theyve got so much firepower and they are so disciplined," Rask said. Capitals goalie Braden Holtby played well but suffered his first loss against the Bruins after winning the first four matchups of his career. "It was frustrating, but its no more frustrating to me than it is to the other guys in the room," Holtby said. "A goalie cant rely on offence. You have no control over that. You control your game and what you can contribute to the team.dddddddddddd" Washington has lost all its games since beating Boston on Saturday for its fourth straight win. It lost to Philadelphia twice, 5-4 in overtime then 6-4 on Wednesday night, before getting blanked by Boston. "We talked about that before the game, how theyre probably going to be a little tired and we need to take advantage of that," Bruins defenceman Matt Bartkowski said. "I think we did a good job of it." Campbell gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 3:05 of the second period when he tipped in Patrice Bergerons shot. Bergeron fired the puck from the top of the left circle and Campbell, standing just to the right of Holtby, deflected it in for his seventh goal of the season and fourth in four games. Eriksson got his seventh at 8:20 after missing one game with an infected heel that he said he sustained at the Winter Olympics in Russia where he played for Sweden. Carl Soderberg passed the puck from behind the net to Eriksson, whose short shot from the left side beat Holtby. That was more than enough for the Bruins, who gave the Capitals little room to operate. "They played last night," Julien said. "It was important for us to get on them physically and make them throw pucks away and guys did a great job." Alex Ovechkin, who leads the NHL with 44 goals, had just one shot after scoring two power-play goals on nine shots in Washingtons win in Boston last Saturday. The Capitals took 31 shots in that game, while Holtby stopped 36 of the Bruins 38 shots. NOTES: Washington D Cameron Schilling played after being recalled from Hershey of the AHL on Wednesday. ...
