HARRISON, N.J. - For an MLS team that has seen more change than any other, the New York Red Bulls players are expecting more turmoil this off-season now that they know that Thierry Henry wont return. Two days after being eliminated one goal shy the MLS Cup final - and a day after Henry said he was done, the Red Bulls sat rather glumly in front of their lockers on Tuesday reflecting on the past season and contemplating a possibly more upheaval that has come to mark the club.Theres a lot thats going to happen this off-season, (more) than we could even speculate goalkeeper Luis Robles said, noting the expansion draft, trades and the leagues collective bargaining negotiations with the players union. I really feel there a lot of questions up in the air that may not have immediate answers. The Red Bulls have used 250 players since beginning in 1996, 13 more than the next closest MLS team, the Colorado Rapids. Its roster has been highlighted by some of the biggest names in soccer: Lothar Matthaeus, Roberto Donadoni, Youri Djorkaeff and Rafa Marquez. The departure of Henry, 37, will be felt especially by Bradley Wright-Phillips, who equaled MLS single-season scoring record of Roy Lassiter and Chris Wondolowski this season with 27 goals. Its a sad day. Its a sad day, Wright-Phillips said. I never fully accepted it until I heard it was going to be announced. Its going to take some replacing. I dont think you can replace the man.Neither coach Mike Petke nor sporting director Andy Roxburgh made themselves available to reporters to address possible off-season changes. With Australian international midfielder Tim Cahill starting only three of the final nine games of the regular season and only two of five playoff matches, its unclear whether the teams other designated player signed outside the salary cap will return, despite having a year remaining on his contract. Each team is permitted three designated players.Cahill was seen in the players lounge but did not speak with reporters.Others, like midfielder Dax McCarty, 27, who has been with three teams in nine years — the last 2 1/2 with New York — thinks significant change is inevitable.Weve all heard rumours. But obviously when you lose a guy like Thierry, things are going to change, because he was a big part of this team, McCarty said. And for the last 4 1/2 years he was one of the best players in the league.Henry wouldnt comment on how much he expected the team to change, saying it was not far. He said he will most miss the camaraderie, but was quick to emphasize that did not necessarily mean he was retiring. It was always going to be 4 1/2 years, he said. When asked about a possible return to English club Arsenal, where Henry played for eight years, he was equally non-committal.Thats a wish. Christmas is arriving soon, so its a wish, he said. Its a wish. Everybody knows how much I love the club.Whatever Henry does, he said he will keep his New York home.Hopefully theyll let me come back and watch some games, he joked. Custom Tampa Bay Rays Jerseys .
